Extend the advantages of Panasonic PLCs with certified safety-related functions
FP-Safe controllers can be used to realize the safety-related functions required by the new Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC). The controllers achieve Safety Integrity Claim Limit 3 (SIL CL3) according to EN 62061, one of the harmonized standards under the new Machinery Directive.

The value of Panasonic?s safety solution lies in its comprehensive diagnostics. FP-Safe controllers and FP-series PLCs can be easily connected via RS232C, and the programming software FPWIN Pro contains a function block that reads diagnostic information from FP-Safe Controllers and transmits it to FP-series PLCs. Hence, customers not only know the execution status of an emergency stop, but also about which one was executed and where. Customers benefit from easier error detection, quicker maintenance and reduced machine down-time.

The FP-Safe controllers are freely configurable. The safety-related functions are predefined in the intuitive software tool ?FP-Safe Configurator?, which also visualizes the wiring of sensors and actuators, parameter settings for all safety-related components and signals, etc. Safe access control, program validation, and project verification mechanisms are implemented within the FP-Safe hardware and FP-Safe Configurator so that any unauthorized change is blocked and an error message issued.

Configure safety-related functions with FP-Safe Controllers
The following safety-related functions (SRFs) can be implemented with an electronic circuit that contains two inputs and an acknowledge input. They are available for the controller unit (5 SRFs), the transistor I/O expansion unit (2 SRFs), and the motion monitoring unit (2 SRFs).
  • Emergency stop, monitoring of emergency stop button
  • Permission, monitoring of permission switch
  • Protection cover

The following safety-related functions require other circuitry

  • Two-hand control requires 2 inputs and 2 acknowledge inputs. This safety-related function is available once on each FP-Safe controller unit, transistor I/O expansion unit and motion monitoring unit.
  • The operation mode selector can only be configured on the controller unit with either 3 or 6 switching positions.
  • Motion monitoring with proximity switches is only available on the controller unit. With the help of 2 proximity switches for each axis, a total of two axes can be monitored. The control unit can monitor standstill and rotation speeds of up to 1200Hz.
  • Motion monitoring with incremental signal inputs (TTL, Sin/Cos) is available on the motion monitoring unit. The motion monitoring unit can monitor two axes for all operation modes available.
